Why book Jessica Fellowes?

As niece of the creator and writer of ‘Downton Abbey’, Julian Fellowes, Jessica is well placed to talk about the real-life inspirations behind the show. Jessica has written three official companion books, the first two of which have been bestsellers around the world. The books are triple-layered: she writes about the show itself, how it’s made and the social history context behind the lives depicted.

What’s the title of the talks?
Currently ‘Downton Abbey’: A Celebration is the talk to accompany the latest book (out in the UK, USA and Canada Nov 10 2015). With clips and images from the book’s gorgeous photography and design, drawn from all six series, Jessica talks about the making of ‘Downton Abbey’, the real-life inspirations for the show, and draws deft parallels between the lives lived then and now.

What’s the format?
Generally, Jessica talks for about 40 minutes, followed by a Q&A with the audience. Jessica is always happy to do a book signing session afterwards. The talks are always delivered with humour and warmth.

Jessica also greatly enjoys interviewing other authors, chairing panel debates, acting as auctioneer or as MC for fundraising events, all of which she has experience in.

Who has booked talks before?
Jessica talks before a wide variety of audiences – from small, private dinners of 25 to vast auditoriums of 2,500 people. In the USA, she has given talks for PBS stations, charitable foundations, universities and public libraries from New Jersey to Denver. In the UK, literary festivals, book societies and visiting American tour groups have all booked Jessica. See the Calendar of Events to see more details of past talks as well as forthcoming dates.

Where will Jessica travel?
Presently, Jessica has done her talks all over the UK and in the USA. The talks in America generally are done as tours in September/October and January/February, but she has travelled across the pond for short hops, too. As the show is a global hit, Jessica is currently looking to build programmes in South East Asia and Australia.
